Burger & Beer fundraiser a great success

On a rainy Saturday evening ROAR hosted its first Burger & Beer fundraiser at The Queens in downtown Nanaimo.

It was a packed house at The Queens on a rainy Saturday night and an extremely successful fundraiser for Reaching Out Assisting Refugees. We are very grateful to all the performers, volunteers, and staff of The Queens, and all those who came out to support our efforts! The Mayor of Nanaimo and the MLA for Nanaimo-North Cowichan also graced our stage. Special thanks to Bill McKay and Doug Routley for their enthusiastic support.

Shout outs to Miss Vikki Smudge and the troupe of intrepid performers who so generously gave of their time and talents. Kudos to Rick Dagg for fine emceeing, and to Mike Scott and Alessandro Iachelli for organizing ticket sales and the silent auction. And thanks to everyone else who helped behind the scenes. It was an evening to remember.

But ROAR isn't finished yet, as we cast our eyes ahead to the new year and a new event coming up in February at Vancouver Island University, with a wonderful guest speaker.  In the meantime we hope all our friends and supporters have a very peaceful and reflective Christmas season.
